A new Round Ireland Solo Record of 4 days, 1 hour, 53 minutes and 29 seconds was set this afternoon by Belgian, Michel Kleinjans in his Open 40 ‘Roaring Forty’. “Subject to official ratification by the ISAF/World Sailing Speed Record Council.” Congratulations to Michel who left Dun Laoghaire last Saturday 01 October shortly after mid-day heading south, passing the Tuskar at 19.40 that evening, the Fastnet at 14.00 on Sunday 2nd, Inistrahull at 09.37 and Rathlin at 14.00 on Tueday 4th. On Tueday evening, he almost stopped with the tide and wind against him, but continued south, reporting by Lambay Is shortly after 1pm on Wednesday and crossing the finish line off Dun Laoghaire’s West Pier just before 3pm – in the process taking over 34 hours off Mick Liddy’s recently set record time
