Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedintumblrmailWe would like to invite all Members to drop by the Club this weekend when we are hosting the 2006 All Ireland Sailing Championships. Results will be posted live on the JB room flat screens and the finals are scheduled to be raced on a course in the Harbour on Sunday afternoon. Club members competing include: David Crosbie, Conor Byrne, Annalise Murphy, Ann Kirwan, Martin Byrne, Johnnie Phillips, Adam Winkelmann, Claudine Murphy and Tom Duggan. 50 Top Irish Sailors Chase Ultimate National Trophy 50 of Ireland’s top amateur and Olympic sailors will converge on Dun Laoghaire this weekend to compete in the All Ireland Sailing Championship. The Senior competition will be sailed in the 1720 Sportsboat while the Junior/Girls event will take place in Topper dinghies. It’s interesting to look at the 25 strong Senior Fleet: 4 Previous Winners Competing: Mark Mansfield, Gerbil Owens, Neil Hegarty & David Crosbie 3 Olympians: Mark Mansfield (Athens 2004, Sydney 2000 & Atlanta 1996), Gerbil Owens (Athens 2004) & John O’Driscoll (Atlanta 1996) 3 Current Olympian Campaigners: Gerbil Owens (470 class), Rogar Craig (Laser class) & Paul McCarthy (Paralympic Squad) 3 Women Helms Competing: Amy-Jayne, representing the Multihull class; Ann Kirwan, Ruffians and wild card nominee Mary O’Loughlin who represented Ireland at the recent Nations Cup Match Racing Grand Final. Long Distance Travellers: John McGuinness, Movill Boat Club, Co Donegal at one end of the country to Paul McCarthy from Kinsale Yacht Club, Cork. This year’s Junior/Girls Fleet will be the biggest gathering yet with 25 competitors all racing within the one fleet. For the first time the 9 Girls will sail both days and within the Junior Fleet, allowing the very real possibility that the winning Girl could also clinch the Junior Title. Again we have a good national spread with competitors from Quoile Yacht Club on Strangford Lough, to those familiar with the waters around Kinsale and Sligo. The weekend will provide a challenge for both Principle Race Officers (PROs). PRO Jack Roy (Senior Fleet) and Commodore Con Murphy (Junior/Girl Fleet PRO) will between them manage around 30 races, over 9 possibly 10 different leagues during the two day event. The ISA All Ireland Sailing Championship is sponsored by the Dun Laoghaire Harbour Company. In addition Viking Marine and Topper Sailboats, in a joint sponsorship deal, will supply all new Topper sails for the Junior/Girls event which will standardise their fleet. Dublin Sea Tours are also supporting the ISA by providing a press/photographers boat for both days. The ISA was delighted to be able to choose the recently revamped National Yacht Club as the hosting venue.
