RC Laser (Radio controlled Laser) racing series

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedintumblrmailWe now have over 27 RC Lasers in Dun Laoghaire and when the next shipment arrives in February the numbers will reach the astonishing level of 30 boats!!!! From Sunday, 6th January and every Sunday thereafter up to the end of April, we shall organize racing and training for RC Lasers at the National Yacht Club. Training sessions for all levels of ability will commence at 1.00pm and racing will start at 2.00pm. We usually try to organize up to 10 races and finish before 4.00pm. Weekly prize giving in the National bar immediately afterwards. Experience over the last couple of months has reassured us that the boats can be sailed successfully in up to 30 knots! So do not be put off by a bad forecast. The inner pontoon has been left in by the Club and a rib is launched for our use every Sunday. We lay compact windward / leeward courses of approximately 75 meters in length and have access to experienced OODs and on the water judges. The racing will be arranged in Monthly series with prizes for every level of competence. There will also be overall winter series prizes donated by a number of generous sponsors. For every 10 races completed there will be 3 discards permitted. This should have the effect of ensuring that if you miss a weekend it will enable you to win a monthly series and also still be in with a chance in the overall Winter series even if you miss up to 4 weekends. We hope to conclude the series with a National Championships to be held near Easter time at a date to be agreed. We are also hoping to arrange one weekend away in Kinsale where the Cork based fleets would join us. There has been a suggestion that we might arrange some inter club RC Laser Sailing with the |Royal Irish and the Royal St George to encourage further fleet development. We have the opportunity of enjoying the best RC Fleet racing anywhere, so let’s make sure we get the best possible value and fun out of these superb boats. For further information, technical support or advice, please feel free to contact myself, John Hall, Alan Green or Alan Dooley. If you are having any difficulties with your boats, the Dun Laoghaire Fleet has access to a full range of spare equipment including spars, sails, foils and servos. Finally we have got a superb Irish RC Laser website up and running due to the tremendous efforts of John McNeilly and Alan Green. It is worth a look as it is full of really useful information, photos, videos and contact details. Best Regards, Roger Bannon
