NYC RIB Challenge TeamsThree Club teams competed with spectacular success on Sunday 19 September in the regional final ISA RIB Challenge sponsored by Yachtsman Euromarine Insurance and all have booked their places in the national finals to be held in Foynes in October. The competition is aimed at improving the national standard of powerboat use and safety, being conscious of yacht clubs’ and sailing’s dependence on RIBs for safety and race course management. Eleven teams competed in this regional final which was held at the club.

The teams, managed by Eddie Totterdell and coached by Gearoid O’Riain and Mal Nowlan, competed for the first time in this now annual event the prizes for which are two RIBs, one for each of the best senior and junior teams. The competition includes boat handling, nautical knowledge, rope-work and, for the seniors, trailer parking.

The senior team, captained by Mal Nowlan with Alan Greene and Cillian Totterdell, lead the senior competition. Two juniors teams – Junior 1 of Chris Raymond, Sean Totterdell and William Byrne were beaten on points by Junior 2 – Conor Totterdell, Tadgh Donnelly and Ben Raymond who lead the junior section, but still did enough to qualify for the final in Foynes.
