Brilliant Day for Golf in Blainroe

A Perfect Day……………….

On Friday 18th March, 30 of the golfers from the National set out to Blainroe Golf Club, with a mixed weather forecast in the back of our minds, and high hopes that the ‘scattered occasional showers spreading from the south’ would not materialise.  On reaching Blainroe, the bright sunshine made the Club look more like the Balearic’s. With very light winds and this big course in very good condition, we were all set for high scores for the low handicappers, particularly the big-hitters.  Well surprise, surprise, it was the girls who showed us how it is done, with Cathy Dooley leading us home on 36 points followed by her sister on 35 (what are they feeding these girls?) A return to form for Roger with 35 points, playing off 10.51375 was a superb result and landed the men’s prize.  Ken Dumpleton brought two very welcome guests, Fred Barber won nearest the pin, and Ed Martin won Longest, Anne Lyons was the Longest Ladies drive (I think she out drove most of the men!) Back at the Club, we had a most enjoyable fish and chips in the bar – a firm favorite at this stage. As this was our last outing with Peter as Commodore, we presented him with a memento from all the Members, and conferred on him the first Honorary Life Member of the NYCGS. All agreed that the course was fantastic, and that this must go down as one of the best golf days we have had. A huge thanks to Hilda for arranging things, and for keeping us under control. We are starting to receive calls from Met Eireann asking about our next outing – this cannot go on!
