Commodore Peter D. Ryan’s Tribute Dinner

This formal dinner takes place in the National Yacht Club only on the change of Commodore, typically every three years. It is a night where the members of the Club acknowledge the contribution of the out going Commodore. Special guests at the function were ISA President, Niamh McCutcheon and CEO of Dun Laoghaire Harbour, Gerry Dunne. Also present was Commodore Patrick Blaney from the Royal St. George Yacht Club, Commodore Brian Cusack, from the Dun Laoghaire Motor Yacht Club, Commodore Tony Fox, from Dublin Bay Sailing Club and Commodore Peter Beamish, Royal Alfred Yacht Club. Also present at the dinner were past Commodores of the National Yacht Club, Con Murphy, Chris Moore, Ida Kiernan, Barry MacNeaney, Michael Horgan, Brian Barry and Malachi Muldoon. On arrival, Guests attended a pre-dinner Champagne Reception in the JB Room where they were entertained by the string trio “Neptune Trio”. The Head Chef, Cormac Healy, prepared an excellent fare of Dressed Crab, Beef Wellington, Bailey’s Cheesecake and Cheese Board. The MC for the night was Alan Dooley. The Honorary Secretary, Ronan Beirne, said the “Grace”. The “Toast to Ireland” was provided by Past Commodore, Michael Horgan. The “Toast to Guests and Visitors” was given by Past Commodore, Con Murphy. ISA President, Niamh McCutcheon, gave to the response. The “Toast to the Commodore of the National yacht Club” was given by  incoming Commodore, Paul Barrington. A presentation from the Members was then made to the Commodore, Peter Ryan. The presentation was an antique chart of Dublin Bay, dated 1690. The Commodore then replied. In his speech he outlined the “achievements” made during his three-year tenure and thanked all those who worked alongside him. He finished by offering the incoming Commodore, Paul Barrington, his full support and assistance.
