Optimist Spring Training, Baltimore

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedintumblrmailEach year the International Optimist Dinghy Association in Ireland hold a spring training camp over the February mid-term break, this year it was held in Baltimore, Cork. In the mornings we trained on the water and after lunch on shore and had one or two races.  Monday was a great start with sun and no wind whatsoever but by Wednesday it changed to lots of wind and rain, a bit dull!  We learned to sail in all kinds of weather. There were pizza nights, cinema nights, a disco, a trip around the RNLI Station and even a castle!  While we sailed, our younger brothers and sisters had ‘Fitbones’ training and there were cookery classes for the adults. Friday ended with the prizegiving with presentations for ‘Best Starts’, ‘Most Capsizes’, and even ‘Most Injuries’! Then Baltimore was left behind as everyone journeyed home to vote, full of knowledge, fresh air and exhaustion. Heather Spain – Opi Sailor
