Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedintumblrmailGreat start to the sailing season for NYC junior sailors! The NYC junior sailors got the 2011 season off to a great start with a successful and entertaining Junior Spring Open Regatta on the 19th and 20th of March hosted by the Royal St. George Yacht Club. The NYC had a large number of entries with many of the Spring Training Teams taking part. In the Lasers 4.7 Sian Kneafsey came 2nd overall, Susie O’Neill 7th and Ben Raymond 10th. There was a large number of NYC sailors in the Optimist class. 21 NYC Optimists competed in the Main and Regatta fleets out of 68 entries, winning 3 of the 5 classes. In the Main fleet of 52 sailors, Sean Donnelly came 2nd overall with Daniel Raymond 7th, Conor Keafsey 11th and Conor Totterdell 15th. Nicole Hemeryck was 1st in the Senior Silver category and Oskar Cahill came 1st in the Junior Silver category with Evie Byrne close behind in 3rd place. We wish to highlight the success of the most junior of our sailors in the Optimist Regatta Fleet. For many of these young sailors, aged between 8 and 10, it was their very first experience of sailing in a regatta. We are very proud that 6 of the top 8 places went to NYC sailors. Peter Fagan came 1st, Clare Gorman 2nd, Ella Hemeryck 4th, Katie Jane Marshall 6th, Cian Murphy 7th and Patrick Coyle 8th. Congratulations to all the teams and to their coach Katie Malcolm who prepared them so well for this important event in launching their racing careers!
