Junior Prize-Giving Night!

Junior sailor’s took over the NYC, on Friday 30th September, to celebrate their hugely successful season! For one night only, 75 young sailors accompanied by 60 parents and 35 instructors attended the prize giving and disco, making it the largest junior section evening ever held in the club! Significant pieces of silverware were awarded for significant results at home and away this season. This was not just an evening for the sailors who competed in their class regattas around the country and overseas. Certificates were also awarded to sailors who worked hard during the summer courses to achieve their ISA levels. The instructors awarded special prizes to the sailors who, in their opinion, improved most or contributed most to their summer courses. This year the club acknowledged the increasing number of junior sailors representing the National Yacht Club at class regattas with the award of a very popular funky document wallet. This new award shows how the junior section has grown in recent years. Particular thanks are due to all the instructors and senior instructor, Ben Mitchell, who worked hard to create an atmosphere of fun and learning for the junior sailors during the season. After the prize giving the sailors disappeared from sight, but not out of hearing, to the junior disco taking place in the JB room, while their parents sat down to supper with old friends and new.
