Excellent Start for NYC Sailing Season

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedintumblrmailThe RStGYC Junior Spring Regatta was held last weekend in light winds and plenty of sunshine. Our own Barry MacNeaney was PRO and opted to lay the courses in Scotsman’s bay enabling parent’s to have a dry and comfortable view of the racing! The dolphins visited the Opi, Topper and RS Feva course on Saturday and returned on Sunday to entertain the Laser and 420 sailors on their course. The NYC was very prominent in the prizes. Conor Totterdell helmed the winning RS Feva and Sarah Cooney sailed magnificently to take 2nd place in the Laser 4.7 class. Daniel Raymond continued his winning form with 2nd place  in the Optimists and Nicole Hemeryck, sailing her first Topper event, was placed 4th. In all the NYC took 5 of the top 10 places in the Optimist class. Dara Donnelly, Heather Spain and new comer to main fleet, Clare Gorman were placed 1st 2nd and 3rd girl respectively. Conor Gorman, in his first event,  was the only NYC representative in the Optimist regatta fleet sailing a full 8 races over the 2 days. A fabulous start for what promises to be an excellent season for NYC juniors. The next event is the Malahide regatta in 2 weeks.
