Optimist Trial 2014

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedintumblrmailOPi trials 2014The 2014 Optimist trials took place over two consecutive weekends. The first leg took place in Howth Yacht club and the second in the Royal St George Yacht Club. In total the series consisted of 14 races with the final race on Monday being held in extremely challenging conditions with winds gusting over 30 knots and large waves. Only one third of the fleet managed to complete this final challenge of the event. 9 sailors from the National Yacht club qualified and competed in the event. Clare Gorman, Dara Donnelly, Loghlen Rickard, Nicola Ferguson, Charlie Cullen, Ella Hemeryck, Luke Richard, Cliona Coyle and Natasha Hemeryck represented our club over the 6-day event. All of our sailors did extremely well in a highly competitive and difficult competition. Unfortunately, not everyone could make a team but we would like to congratulate Clare Gorman, Dara Donnelly and Loghlen Rickard who qualified to represent Ireland in the European Championships and Nicola Ferguson who qualified for the French Nationals in July. Charlie Cullen did extremely well and had 2 first places during the event. Ella Hemeryck was also very close to get a place. Well done everyone! We would also like to thank Tadgh Donnely for being a fabulous supportive coach for our sailors both on and off the water and to Oisine Hemeryck for organising the performance training in the NYC.
