Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedintumblrmailOptimists UlstersThe Optimist Ulster’s took place last weekend in Skerries. 19 young sailors from the National Yacht club took place in this weekend event. Loghlen Rickard, Clare Gorman, Ella Hemeryck, Nicola Ferguson, Dara Donnelly, Cliona Coyle and Cillian Madigan raced in the Senior Main Fleet. Charlie Cullen, Luke Rickard, Leah Rickard, Natasha Hemeryck, Conor Gorman, Jack Hall, Fiona Ferguson, Hugh O’Connor and Charlie McCarthy raced in the Junior Main Fleet, and Zoe Hall, Georgie McCarthy and Billy McCarthy sailed in the Regatta fleet. Saturday was a difficult day for the main fleet sailors due to lack of wind. The sailors floated on still water for 3 hours in search for wind. No races took place and the coaches towed all the boats back to shore. On Sunday the race officer succeeded in getting 3 races completed. The winds were light and variable between 5 and 8 knots and tides were very strong. Charlie Cullen (pictured below) came 4th overall in the Junior main fleet and Leah Rickard (pictured below) came 5th overall and also took home the Junior silver fleet prize (see photos). Full results are to be found on the IODAI website. All 19 sailors sailed well and represented our club well. CharlieLeahNYC team at optimists Ulsters
