bk1bk3 bk2NYC had a good turnout of Laser sailors at the Laser Leinsters held in Dunmore East at the August Bank Holiday weekend with 8 NYC sailors at the event.

Finn Lynch & Conor Kneafsey repeated their success at the Laser Ulsters with another win for Finn in the Standard fleet and another second for Conor in the 4.7 fleet.  Both sailors excelled in the windy conditions with winds of 16-23+ knots with rain on the first day followed by sunnier conditions and 15-18 knots of breeze with wind-against-tide conditions and the famous Dunmore swell producing large waves for the second day of racing. Finn Lynch continued his phenomenal form of 2014 (despite his Leaving Cert getting in the way!) when he produced a stunning display to beat 2012 Olympian, James Espey in the 19-boat Standard Rig fleet. Finn now adds the Leinster title to the Munster & Ulster titles he has already won this year.  Finn excelled in the tough conditions with four race wins, coming from behind to overhaul the Irish Olympian twice on the second day. Finn & James will go head to head to qualify Ireland for Rio 2016 at the ISAF World Championships / Olympic Qualifier in Santander in September so the best of luck to Finn! Conor Kneafsey also sailed very consistently in the 4.7 rig and despite a total of just 9 points after 6 races including 2 wins (1,1,2,2,3,4), just lost out to winner Tom Purdon of Strangford Lough YC on countback as both had 9 points. Other NYC sailors who sailed very well in the 30-boat 4.7 fleet were Rory Caslin (4th), Patrick Coyle (10th), Conor Byrne (12th) and Robert Riordan (24th in his first regional event). Guy Boggan and Sean Landers (both joint WHSC & NYC members) were placed 11th and 15th in the 23-boat Radial fleet. Full results on the ILA website (http://www.laser-ireland.com/results.html) The next Laser event will be the Nationals scheduled for Ballyholme in Bangor over 4 days at the end on August (Thurs Aug 28th – Sun Aug 31st). We have organized high performance coaching pre-Nationals at NYC the previous weekend (Fri Aug 22nd-Sun 24th), details which will be on the NYC website.
