large cruiseship Dun Laoghaire Harbour Company will be submitting a Planning Application to An Bord Pleanala for a new berth for large cruise ships towards the end of this month.

It is proposed that the new berth will be 435m in length and will accommodate cruise ships of up to 340m in length and 60 – 70m in height at St Michael’s pier. This compares to the new Dun Laoghaire library which is 35m high and 120m long. The harbour company hopes that up to 100 ships, or 3-4 each week will use this new facility each year during the summer season. The shops will dock in the morning and leave in the evening, the transit time to/from the berth will be approximately 30 minutes.

The new berth will significantly reduce the sailing area in the harbour. http://dlharbour.ie/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Areas-available-to-sailors-post-construction-of-cruise-berth.pdf
