Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedintumblrmailopi leinsters 2015 picture 2 21 young sailors from the NYC took part in the optimist Leinsters in Howth on 5th and 6th September 2015. We had 13 main fleet sailors and 8 regatta fleet sailors. Main fleet report. Charlie Cullen, Natasha Hemeryck and Deirdre Turner raced in the senior fleet. Conor Gorman, Leah Rickard, Fiona Ferguson, Hugh O’Connor, Nathan Van Steenberge, Eoghan Turner, Georgie McCarthy, Zoe Hall, Sophie Gorman, and Louis-Marie Julo sailed in the Junior fleet. Saturday was a bright day with winds from 6-12 knots. 3 races were raced on this day. On the Sunday there was a lot less wind. Launching was delayed as the optimist sailors waited for the wind to come in. The featherweights in the fleet cheered silently while the heavier sailors hoped that Windguru got it wrong. Race 4 was completed in winds up to 6 knots. Race 5 was started and restarted due to lack of wind and shifty wind conditions. The PRO very sensibly decided not to try and do a 6th race due to lack of wind. Results: Charlie Cullen received a prize for 5th Senior, Conor Gorman for 2nd Junior and Leah Rickard for 5th Junior. Full results can be found on the IODAI website. Regatta fleet Report We had 8 NYC sailors that competed in the Regatta fleet. Ella Dempsey, Billy McCarthy, Ellen Madigan, Edward Dempsey, Clodagh Malone, Clementine Van Steenberge, Lucia Cullen and Conor Staunton all competed in the Regatta fleet. Under the watchful eye of the coaches, they got 3 races completed on day 1 and again, due to the lack of wind on day 2, the Regatta fleet sailors only got 1 race after the coaching session. They all thoroughly enjoyed the event. Results: Ella Dempsey was the best performer in the races coming 6th in a fleet of 54 sailors. Special awards for effort and skill were presented to Clementine Van Steenberge, Ellen Madigan and Billy McCarthy. They all made plenty of friends and are looking forward to meeting them all again in 2016.
