Irish Feva Nationals

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedintumblrmailThe McCready Sailboats Irish RS Feva Nationals, hosted by Greystones Sailing Club took place from July 18th – 20th. The event was sailed mid-week this year in order to attract as many young sailors as possible – this proved successful with 38 boats turning out to compete in the event. 10 Junior sailors from the NYC took part in this event which was for all of them their first ever Feva event. The sailors representing the NYC were Sophie Gorman, Sive Mc Loughlin, Hugh O’Connor, Mathew O’Brien Holohan, Georgie Mc Carthy, Billy Mc Carthy, Isabel O’Brien, Thomas O’Brien, Zoe Hall and Jack Hall. Day 1 was very challenging, with 3 races sailed in winds gusting up to force 4 at times. At the end of the first day Jack Hall and Mathew O’Brien Holohan were positioned in joint 3rd place. In contrast, a complete lack of wind on day 2 resulted in no sailing, but lots of fun on shore with water and land based challenges in the form of the Feva OLympics instead, in brilliant sunshine. Day 3 saw 5 races in shifty wind conditions of up to force 3. Jack Hall and Mathew O’Brien Holohan came 6th overall and also won best position for sailing with a Non Excel Sail. Well done to all our sailors who sailed very well in the Event. The general consensus was that it was a fantastic event – sunshine, wind and great competition. The prizes were awarded by Sean Craig, who presented the perpetual Jack Craig trophy to the winners Henry Start and Morgan Devine from the RSGYC. Our sailors were supported by our two coaches Ben Arrowsmith and Meg Tyrrell throughout the event a big thanks to them for all the support and encouragement they gave the sailors.   Rebecca Hall
