Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedintumblrmailOptimist Munsters update Congratulations to the 19 NYC sailors who competed at the 2017 Optimist Munster regional competition at Kinsale Yacht Club in Cork at the weekend 13 – 14 May. Five races were held over the two days for over 100 Main Fleet sailors in wet weather with light, but shifty winds. The sun shone for the second day of racing with medium to high winds and challenging swells. NYC sailors were well represented in the Main Fleet top five. Leah Rickard finished 2nd place overall in Senior Gold Fleet and 1st girl. Hugh Turvey finished overall 3rd place in Senior Gold Fleet. Luke Turvey finished overall 2nd place in Junior Gold Fleet. Sam Ledoux finished overall 4th place in Junior Gold Fleet. Well done also to Main Fleet sailors Conor Gorman, Nathan Van Steenberge, Hugh O’Connor, Zoe Hall, David Corcoran, Louis-Marie Jullo, Clodagh Malone, Clementine Van Steenberge and Lucia Cullen for their strong performance. In Regatta Fleet, congratulations to Des Turvey who won best under-10. Lizzie Hall received a special prize for her determination, Pierce Malone was awarded a prize for his persistence and James Hall received a prize for great sailing. Well done also to Adelaide Jullo and Oscar Malone in Regatta Fleet. Following on from the successful DOGs and ongoing OMG training, the three Dun Laoghaire clubs NYC, RStGYC and RIYC joined up for Main Fleet coach support in Kinsale headed by Cian Mollen with Claudine Murphy, Colin and Tara Flood. Many thanks to Cian and the team for excellent communication throughout the event and for towing the NYC rib to Kinsale. Thanks to David Bolger and Billy Riordan from RStGYC for continued cooperation between the Dun Laoghaire clubs. A special thanks to Kinsale Yacht Club and all their volunteers for a warm welcome and an excellent event.
