Topper Wicklow Travellers Report

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedintumblrmailTopper Wicklow Travellers Report (# 3) There was a good gathering of Topper sailors at Wicklow SC, Sunday 14th May, with an overall 36 sailors taking part: 28 off 5.3 Rig and 8 off 4.2 Rig sailors. Four races were held in very blustery conditions, squally, sunny bright, wet – ranging from F1 to F4 – making for tough conditions all round, particularly with a good tidal flow across the course. There were 4 sailors representing NYC in the 5.3 Fleet: Eoghan and Deirdre Turner, Natasha Hemeryck and Caoimhe Beirne and Caoimhe Seymour in the 4.2; who all put in good performances in the very challenging conditions. Race 1 had to be re-sailed, due to perfect timing of the first ferocious squall with large wind shift just after the start and was re-started at 12:50. Subsequent races were all back to back and had several General Recalls before the race officer had to resort to use of “additional” Flags to help line discipline in the tidal conditions. A particular well done to the Race Officer for getting the full programme completed. 5.3 Fleet 1st Overall went to Dan McGaughey from Donaghadee SC with an indisputable 4x 1st places 2nd to Jess Winton from BYC – who was also 1st Lady 3rd to Erin McIlwaine from Newcastle SC 4th and U17 prize went to Joseph Karauzum from CAYC 5th overall and the highest placing south of the border went to Kate Fahy from RStGYC, who was also 1st U14 sailor. Highest placed NYC sailors were Eoghan Turner 8th; Natasha Hemeryck 9th who also collected the 2nd place U17 prize and Deirdre Turner at 12th   A BIG thank you to Wicklow SC and their team for a very warm welcome, great safety support and for running such a good well organised event. The next Topper event is Lough Quoile (Northern Championships) and then on to the Southern Championships at NYC 16/17th June.
