Optimist VP Cup in Houth

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedintumblrmailSunny sailing at the optimist Vice President’s Trophy   Forty-four sailors from across Ireland took part in the annual Vice President’s Trophy team racing event on Saturday in Howth Yacht Club under a cloudless sky. NYC sent one team (Nathan Vansteenberge, Louis-Marie Jullo, Sam Ledoux and Clementine Vansteenberge). The VP cup has become the premier team-racing event in Ireland for Optimist sailors and is managed in cooperation with IODAI to select teams for international team-racing events. The sailors enjoyed fantastic conditions with a light sea breeze and blazing sunshine. NYC’s team did very well and despite this being their first experience of such an event, they gave the other teams a run for their money only narrowly missing out to qualify for the semi-finals. An incredible 57 races took place throughout the day with RCYC emerging as the victors, RStGYC in 2nd place and HYC in 3rd place. The NYC sailors thoroughly enjoyed working together as a team and are already looking forward to next year’s VP Cup and hope other sailors will join in preparations so we can send several teams to represent the Club. A special thanks to coaches Adam Hyland and Paddy Cahill who guided the NYC team through several intense training sessions in the week leading up to and during the event. Thanks to John Flynn from HYC for organising the event and to Thomas Chaix for assisting on race logistics and scoring. Full results are available at:
