COL End of Season Junior Regatta – Results / Gallery

Thanks to all kids who took part in a very windy event! The Regatta Fleet had to be cancelled unfortunately (safety first!) but our brave Main Fleet competitors battled out the conditions albeit inside the harbour where the Main Fleet course was relocated. 420 Ulsters 2016 – Report

The 420 Ulsters 2016 took place at Strangford Lough Yacht Club on 24th/25th September. 11 teams competed in a very windy event. Racing was cancelled on the Saturday due to the storm; however, the sailors got in 3 races on Sunday in gusty weather with wind speeds up to 25 knots.

Juliette Kennedy (SLYC) and Emily Hill (CAYC) won the event, Nicola and Fiona Ferguson (NYC, pictured with Mum Michele in the background) came second, and Gemma and Cara McDowell (MYC) came third.

The Junior All Ireland Sailing Championships

The Junior All Ireland Sailing Championships ( under 18 yrs )takes place in Schull this weekend . 6 National Yacht club junior members have been invited to compete in this annual event and will sail in TR 3.6 dinghies.

Clare Gorman will be defending the girls title, with crew Ella Hemeryck, Leah Rickard with crew Luke Rickard,Eoghan Byrne is crewing for Jack Fahy(RStGYC) .Cadet member Johnny Durcan will also compete this weekend. A lot of wind is forecast.

Update from September Series

It was amazing to see 135 junior sailors in the National Yacht Club for the the September Series, It is great to see the club so alive with our young sailors. We need lots of volunteers to help launch and recover all these boats so we invite all parents to come and help out over the next few weeks. Results can be found here

The four week series will finish on September 18th with prize giving in The National Yacht.

We will also host the End of Season Regatta on Sept 25th before we say goodbye to Summer Sailing!

Optimist Nationals 2016

The Optimist National Championships took part this year in Lough Derg Yacht Club Dromineer Co Tipperary. The event was over 5 days (15th to the 19th August) with a lay day on the Wednesday.  This was a big event with 207 entries including both Irish and International.  There were 19 NYC Juniors representing the Club at the Nationals.



NYC Laser sailing success continues!

NYC Laser sailing success continues! We are delighted to congratulate Nicole Hemeryck on winning the Ladies Laser Radial National Championship in Galway this weekend. This result and her 7th in the Laser Radial World Championships in Dun Laoghaire means that she will represent Ireland at the ISAF 2016 Youth Sailing World Championships in New Zealand in December. The boy’s Laser place to represent Ireland was won by RCYC’s Johnny Durcan who is also a cadet member at NYC. Claire Gorman put in a stellar performance at the Laser Nationals to win the Ladies Laser 4.7 Championship and second place overall. Well done!!!!
