Irish Sailing Youth National Championships 2022 – NYC Report & Gallery

The Irish Sailing Youth National Championships were hosted at the Ballyholme Yacht Club from 22nd  to the 24th April in sunny but very mixed sailing conditions, with the third day in particular being very challenging. This event is special as it gives the young sailors the opportunity to see the various pathways they may take after the Optimist Fleet. On day 2 the Optimist and ILCA6 classes launched at the same time in very challenging conditions with both classes literally sailing on crests of waves as they sailed out into Belfast Lough.

The National Yacht Club has a vibrant and high achieving youth element to the Club which was in full force at the event.

National Yacht Club sailors participated in the ILCA4, ILCA 6, 29er and Optimist fleets and showed great endurance in their performances in all classes.

Report from Opi Munsters

Great performance from the National Yacht Club optimist sailors last weekend with 2 fleet winners (senior main fleet and regatta fleet) for the Munster Championships in Cork Harbour!

9 National Yacht Club sailors took part in the last optimist regional event of the season, was hosted by Monkstown Bay Sailing Club and launched from Paddy's Point slipway in Ringaskiddy.
The 126 sailors had great conditions with 15kts on Saturday and 16-22kts on Sunday and blue sky!

In the main fleet senior (35 boats), William Walsh NYC came 1st overall with a 9 point lead. Hannah Walsh, 3rd in silver fleet and 17th overall.

In the main fleet junior (50 boats), Louise Hanley came 3rd in silver fleet, FĂ©lix Dion, 9th in silver and Lucas Browne, 13th silver.

In the regatta fleet (41 boats), Basile Dion came 1st overall, Max Neary, 2nd bronze and 4th overall.  Our youngest NYC Sailor AurĂšle Dion finished 4th the bronze fleet and 6th overall, and was the youngest saucer at the event too, and Louis Trikett finished 7th in the silver fleet.

Fantastic results, well done all!

Laser Connaught Championships Report

Laser Connaught Championships Report

Wexford Harbour boat and tennis club hosted the 2021 Connaught laser Championships on two very hot and sunny days with light breezes proving challenging for sailors.

Forty-six boats raced in the 4.7 Laser division, the largest seen for many years and the club was represented by 4 sailors, Christian Ennis, Ella Dempsey, Michael Byrne and Caoimhe Seymour.
A strong finish on Sunday saw both Christian Ennis and Ella Dempsey finish in positions, 7th and 12th respectively. This event is the final racing opportunity and warm up before the 4.7 Worlds which is being hosted from the NYC and in conjunction with the RSGYC in Dunlaoghaire.

The Club will be represented by four of our 4.7 sailors, Christian, Ella, Dylan DeVreeze and Michael at the event and we wish them well.
