Junior Sailing

420 Ulsters 2016 – Report

The 420 Ulsters 2016 took place at Strangford Lough Yacht Club on 24th/25th September. 11 teams competed in a very windy event. Racing was cancelled on the Saturday due to the storm; however, the sailors got in 3 races on Sunday in gusty weather with wind speeds up to 25 knots.

Juliette Kennedy (SLYC) and Emily Hill (CAYC) won the event, Nicola and Fiona Ferguson (NYC, pictured with Mum Michele in the background) came second, and Gemma and Cara McDowell (MYC) came third.

The Junior All Ireland Sailing Championships

The Junior All Ireland Sailing Championships ( under 18 yrs )takes place in Schull this weekend . 6 National Yacht club junior members have been invited to compete in this annual event and will sail in TR 3.6 dinghies.

Clare Gorman will be defending the girls title, with crew Ella Hemeryck, Leah Rickard with crew Luke Rickard,Eoghan Byrne is crewing for Jack Fahy(RStGYC) .Cadet member Johnny Durcan will also compete this weekend. A lot of wind is forecast.

The COL Junior End of Season NYC Regatta 2016 – Sunday 25th September

Sunday 25th September at the NYC Dun Laoghaire 

Open to Junior Sailors under 19 on 31st December 2016
Main Fleet Classes: Optimist – Laser Radial – Laser 4.7-  Topper 5.3 – RS Feva – PY (420, RS 200, etc…)
Up to 3 races back to back outside the harbour.  There will be a separate regatta fleet for Optimists sailors inside the Harbour.

Sailing Gear Sale – Sunday 25th September 2016

The NYC are organising a Sale of Second Hand Sailing Gear for Adults and Juniors

This will coincide with the EOS Regatta

DATE: Sunday 25th September 2016

VENUE: JB Room

TIME: 9am – 11am (setup from 8pm)

ISA Safeguarding 1 – Child Welfare & Protection Basic Awareness Courses (additional date open!)

The NYC is hosting an “ISA Safeguarding 1” Course on Wednesday 21st AND Thursday 22nd September from 18.30 to 21.30 in the JB Room.

The ISA is committed to ensuring the well-being and safety of anyone taking part in activities run by us or any of our affiliated organisations. We recognise that we all hold a particular responsibility towards those children and vulnerable adults who choose to participate in our sports and activities.

We recommend any of our volunteers involved with children to follow this course in advance of expected legislation. Book your place here

Transition Year Programme 2016 / 2017 – Block 1 Registration now open

Once again we are planning a joint TY programme with RSGYC.  The Programme will include a trip to Heir Island, Laser/feva coaching on Wednesday afternoons, rib and first aid courses etc…
