Great NYC success at the Ulster Championship in Belfast Lough

Great NYC success at the Ulster Championship in Belfast Lough

The Ulster championships were hosted by County Antrim Yacht Club on the north shore of Belfast Lough. Competitors contended with strong tidal currents on a trapezoidal championship course with steady winds of 12-18 knots. 56 competitors took part overall The ICLA 4 (Laser 4.7) class was won by NYC's Christian Ennis (pictured left) who has three bullets out of the 6 races. credit to our newest sailors Michael Byrne and Dylan de Vreeze who came in 9th place and 16th place.

The Radial class (ICLA 6) had the most competitors and Hugh O'Connor (pictured below) achieved a superb 3rd place overall and 2nd Youth Sailor winning the middle race on both days. This was the first serious race for many of our sailors in over 2 years and it was great to see everyone in action again. Other super achievements from NYC sailors included Adam Irvin 10th and Rachel Garvey 25th.

We look forward to the next event, the Connaughts which is to be held in Wexford Sailing and Tennis Club on 17th and 18th July. Places are limited to 100 so get your entries in early.

Topper Northerns 2021 – NYC Report

Topper Northerns 2021 – NYC Report

The Topper Northern Championships were held this year in Donaghadee Sailing Club on the north County Down coast. Having waited for the breeze to fill in the 37 competitors eventually set off for the first of three races on Saturday afternoon. The strong tide in the sound off Donaghadee created problems for the sailors resulting in several general recalls and black flag starts, but unlike Sunday when racing was abandoned due to a rolling fogbank, all three races were completed successfully.

Representing the NYC was Ella Fitzgerald who sailed consistently well, finishing at the top of the leader board in 2nd place overall and taking home the silverware as 1st Lady.

A successful return to racing for 29er National Championships 2021

A successful return to racing for 29er National Championships 2021

After almost one year off the race course, NYC’s 29er sailors travelled to Crosshaven with great determination to take part in the 2021 AIB 29er national Championships 3-4 July.

The two-day event was a success: sailing conditions were better than forecast with little rain and most of the ten-race series was held in 12-15 knots on the Curlane Bank, Cork Harbour. Winds were shifty though, and with six races back-to-back covering over 60km of distance on Saturday and four races on Sunday, the sailors’ fitness and stamina were truly tested. The fifteen-boat 29er fleet is growing steadily and NYC’s representatives did their club proud.
