NYC Nippers Programme 2024
The Junior Committee is delighted to offer our very popular Nippers course in May and June 2024, starting on Wednesday 8 May.
The Nippers course is based on the ISAâs Cara na Mara programme. The programme designed for young children aged 6-10 who have not yet had any, or little, experience sailing. The programme is focused on building confidence on the water and teaching the basics of water safety. The emphasis is on fun and safety!
The NYC will run 6 sessions on Wednesdays (Dates May 8, 15, 22, 29 and June 5, 12). The session starts with registration at 5.30 and finishes at 7.30pm.

Adult Pre-Summer 2024 Laser & RS Aero Coaching Sessions – Sunday Mornings
Welcome back to the NYC summer platform! Following demand in a growing group of sailors and to launch the summer racing season, the first coaching series is proposed. The coaching is open to all ILCA rigs and all Aero rigs. It is aiming at sailors wishing to progress their skills in a race environment (speed, rules, starts, mark rounding, tactical decisions...). The sessions are usually but not exclusively sailed inside the harbour on short and intense drills allowing a large variability of experience to enjoy the training. It will be delivered by experienced coaches starting this Sunday with Ellie Cunnane (former Academy laser sailors). The programme is open to all Waterfront club sailors and sessions will start at 9.30 and are expected to be finished by 12.30 with a short debrief before enjoying the traditional club lunch (and enjoying the lunch whilst discussing the outcomes of the morning afloat).

Flying Fifteen High Performance Training Course – May 2024
Following the success of 2023 series, the National YC will once more offer an open series of coached training sessions on Mondays. As per last year we will offer 2 time slots of 3 hours (with an objective of 2 hours afloat). The series will be delivered by Head Coach Thomas Chaix. Learning from last year experience the maximum number of boats per time slot is 12.
Monday 20 May, Monday 27 May, Monday 3 June, Monday 10 June (reserve Monday 24 June in case of a cancellation decided at least 48 hours before a scheduled session due to weather)
Time slot 1: 14.00-17.00
Time slot 2: 18.00-21.00
Price for the full series: âŹ70 / boat for afternoon sessions and âŹ80 / boat for evening sessions
Each session will have specific objective which may be reassessed depending on weather conditions on the day.
- Setting up the boat, speed and discussing the 3 essentials (trim, steering, balance)
- Nailing the boat handling (accelerations, tacks, hoists, jibes, drops)
- Introduction to effective starting (the box, the runway, timings)
- Putting it together with practice races.
Pre-Racing NYC Club Optimists Pre-Summer Training 2024
NOTE: we will also be offering coaching during Friday Night Series (for racers and non racers).

29er pre-summer coaching 2024 – series 1
"Boat handling & completing race size courses"
Following demand and to launch the summer racing season, the first coaching series is proposed. Coaches will focus on boat handling skills to decrease handling errors leading to capsizes and improve fluidity in delivering all key manoeuvres. At the completion of the programme, coaches will produce a progress report to all sailors.
Sessions will start rigged and ready for briefing at 13.00 and is expected to be finished by 17.00.
Dates: 21-04, 12-05, 18-05 (Saturday), 26-05
Cost of the programme: âŹ120/sailor
The club 29er is available for this programme and must be requested to the head coach prior to booking.

Topper & ILCA 4 Pre-Summer Coaching 2024 – Series 1
"Starting well and first decision"
Following demand and to launch the summer racing season, the first coaching series is proposed. Coaches will focus on start techniques and tactics mainly. At the completion of the programme, coaches will produce a progress report to all sailors.
Sessions will start rigged and ready for briefing at 13.00 and is expected to be finished by 17.00. dates: 20-04, 27-04, 18-05, 25-05
Cost of the programme: 120EUR/sailor
Club Topper charter (8 boats) are available for this programme (within availability): 100EUR/sailor; Club ILCA4 charter (one boat) is available for this prgramme: 120EUR/sailor
