Volvo Dun Laoghaire Regatta 2017 – RIB volunteers required

The 2017 Volvo Dun Laoghaire Regatta  (http://www.dlregatta.org/) will be held from Thursday 6th to Sunday 9th July this year.

We are seeking Club volunteers and Junior Instructors to staff the 38 RIBs required to run this event smoothly…

So, if you think you can help and want to be part of this amazing and spectacular event, please do not hesitate to volunteer using the form here!

Thanks in advance.

Dun Laoghaire to Dingle Race

43 boats took the start on Wednesday evening but unfortunately encountered adverse wind (F6-7 on the noise) and sea conditions taking a heavy toll on the fleet. 20 Boats are expected to finish in Dingle this week-end and ALL deserve a prize for this achievement!

Follow the action here (live trackers / afloat articles / official D2D Tweets)

Dublin Bay Sailing Club (DBSC) Call for Volunteers

Every week DBSC organises racing on 9 separate courses with an average of 6 classes competing in each.
These races could not be held without the assistance of a significant number of volunteers.

In addition committee boat drivers, mark layers and rib drivers are required for all bar the hut races.
Regular volunteers fill many of these positions. However this season there are a number of positions vacant.

Book a Club Wayfarer for the Volvo DL Regatta / Wayfarer Nationals

The NYC will be the host Club for the Wayfarer Class which is hosting their Irish National Championships during the Volvo Dun Laoghaire Regatta 2017. This is an ideal opportunity to make the most of our 4 Club Wayfarers to enter this local event!

To book your Wayfarer, please use the form here

Mark Laying Course – Saturday 20th May

The National Yacht Club is organising a Basic Mark Laying Course on Saturday 20th May for all RIB drivers (instructors, parents) currently helping out running our events.

NYC Mark Layer extra-ordinaire Mal Nowlan will share part of his in-depth knowledge on what to expect from a Race Officer and how to quickly and efficiently lay a small racing course. A National Powerboat  Certificate and a good level of confidence driving a RIB  are a pre-requisite.

Costs are left at a minimum to defray petrol & encourage participation for this up-skilling course.  Register Here

Visit Clipper Round the World Yacht ‘Hummingbird’

The Clipper 70 ‘Hummingbird’ which will take part in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race (more info here: https://clipperroundtheworld.com/) starting from Liverpool in 107 days will be paying a visit to the National Yacht Club on Friday 5th May.

Skipper Rachael Sprot has offered viewings of the boat to our members between 5pm and 7pm.

No doubt such a yacht and tales of its crew will inspire our young racers taking part in the Friday Night Series…and their parents!
