[post_content] => SnookerCongratulations again to all last season’s winners and competitors as we approach the start of more of the same – time and tide!

There was a mix up with dates last season, and we have, therefore, fixed the calendar of main events as follows for the coming year.
  • Monday, September 21st - Draw for the McWilliams and Elgan Trophies
  • Thursday, October 1st - First round of both commence.
  • Thursday October 1st - Draw and commencement of the Johnston Memorial Doubles Trophy
  • Thursday January 7th - Draw for the Preston Ball Trophy
  • Friday January 15th - Preston Ball Auction Dinner
  • Friday April 23 - Final of Preston Ball Trophy and Prize giving.
This year all competitions will be limited to 64 entrants. There will, therefore, be no preliminary rounds. The club will invoice all entrants a total of €70 which will cover the cost of the Preston Ball Auction Dinner, including wine and the €25 subscription for one or all of the competitions (€45+€25). The Snooker Committee hope the new format will be supported and welcomed by all. ??For those interested in playing ‘pool’, come on Mondays at 19.30 hrs starting on November 9 There will be prizes for all and this will be followed by the ‘Turkey Pool’ on December the 7, 14, and 21,always a be a bit of fun. The dates for the Billiards Trophy and the Father & Son Competition, for which we eventually got a winner, will be fixed at a later date. There will be a games night every Monday from November 2nd. The format is ideal for new players (experience not necessary) to enjoy convivial company and craic. Snooker players put this date in your diary: Monday, November 2, 2009 at 7pm. ??Your committee for 09/10 comprises myself in the chair, Tony Corcoran, Hubie Kearns, Tom Mulligan (he of Inter Club fame), John Henry McConnell, who came back in with the tide, and perhaps the Badger (Baker), if no written objections are received in time! Looking forward to seeing you at the table.
