Keith Poole/Ian Mathews win the Facet Jewellers F15 Holiday Cup

Facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedintumblrmailDublin Bay through everything in its armoury at our courageous OOD Brian Mathews of the National YC, in endeavouring to organise the racing, for a great fleet of 13 Flying Fifteen’s who challenged for the Facet Jewellers Holiday Cup , very kindly presented by Pat Shanahan. To have to wait for a down pour of rain coming in from the west, a complete flat calm and a light easterly sea breeze filling in from the south east, he got a clean start for the 13 FF 15’s. They all rounded the weather mark, with a very strong ebbing tide only for the wind to die completely. Spinnaker’s were dropped, hoisted again  and the wind went round in circulars. Eventually FF 3684 was seen rounding the gate mark, after 2 rounds and heading back up the course on a beat , eventually reaching a shortened course finishing line . Then the majority of the remaining FF 15’s in the fleet fought it out for 2nd -FF3688 Ben Mulligan and 3rd FF 3774 -Tom Murphy in a very slow tidal race to the finish. Great credit to the DBSC Race Management for their perseverance and patience in very tricky wind conditions and tidal conditions. Pat Shanahan regrettably due to his race out to the Kish was delayed and was unable to present his beautiful Facet Jewellery Flying Fifteen Holiday Cup to our worthy winner’s Keith Poole and Ian Mathews. 2nd place -Ben Mulligan and 3rd Tom Murphy.
