NATIONAL YACHT CLUB’S MAGNIFICENT SEVEN RACE ACROSS THE ATLANTIC

Seven NYC Members are putting in a stunning performance in their first ever ARC Atlantic crossing – having passed the half way mark and coming close to the home stretch.

The seven, including Post Commodore Paul Barrington and former Hon. Treasurer Barry O’Sullivan are less than 1000 Nautical Miles from the finish and all lying in a brilliant 6th place, overall.

The full team (L to R) in photos below is Paul Fagan, Paul Barrington, Brian Uniack, Dave O’Reilly, Alan Daly, Barry O’Sullivan and Teddy Murphy – all NYC Members.

They are sailing the majestic Swan 80, Umiko, which is proudly flying the NYC Burgee, all the way across the ocean.

The ARC is a ‘must do’ for many sailors, and attracts over 200 boats and 1200 people every year to sail 2700 NM across the Atlantic from Gran Canaria to Saint Lucia.

More than just a boat race, the ARC is about friendships made ashore in the two weeks of pre-departure activities continued over the radio net at sea. It’s about arriving in Saint Lucia to be met on the dock with a rum punch and a chilled beer, knowing you have achieved something fantastic – crossing an ocean in the footsteps of the great navigators – including Christopher Columbus.

They are ambassadors for the National Yacht Club in one of the world’s greatest yacht races.
